What our members have to say about “My” Food Allergy Support Group

““My” Food Allergy Support Group has had a tremendous impact on our lives.  When I found out about my son’s allergy two years ago, we had no idea what to do.  After finding MFASG during an internet such, I signed up right away.  I still remember the first meeting- there were a couple of new members, so we basically went around the table and told our stories.  It meant so much to meet people going through the same thing we were.  The Group is a fabulous resource; there is always someone that can help you out with a “product sighting”, recipe, or advice on how they handled a particular situation.  It’s great to be able to connect with people who “get it”, and I think I’ve made some lifelong friends.”

““My” Food Allergy Support Group has helped my 4 year old so much.  He is the only one in his preschool class with a food allergy, so group events allow him to see that there are other kids that need “special” snacks and carry an epi-pen.”

“My daughter is allergic to peanuts.  “My” food allergy support group has been a valuable resource to me for emotional support or well as practical information and tips.  Although everyone’s allergies and comfort level regarding those allergies are different, we all have similar experiences, both good and bad.  Learning this was such a relief to me when I first joined, and now a year later, I still have questions I email the group about.  I would also like to help other people who are new to food allergies, the same way that this group helped me!”

“I have been a member of this group since my 4 year old was diagnosed with multiple food allergies as an infant.  This group has helped me navigate through the different stages of my daughter’s life, from figuring out what to feed her as a toddler, to dealing with relatives, to preschool, playdates, and birthday parties.  Food allergies can be very isolating, and this group has provided a wealth of information and support from people who really understand what it means to live with food allergies.  Most of my contact with the group has been through e-mail; I love that I can post a question and within hours have several thoughtful, supportive responses to help me.”

“This support group has provided our family with such a huge resource of support, ideas, and information to keep our family safe and healthy.  My son and I both have peanut and tree nut allergies and it is comforting to hear successes and trials other food allergic patients are dealing with.  We enjoy so much the Trunk or Treat activity in the fall near Halloween!  Thanks Dena for organizing these events and keeping the support group running smoothly!”

“With this group I don’t feel alone.  I know at any given moment I could reach out (email) and there is someone who knows exactly what I am going through and can help me through it!  This group is amazing and has so much information to share!  The power of parents…LOVE IT!”

“The group is not only a great way of sharing tips about restaurants, safe foods and recipes, but it is also a great place to find comfort and community in the non-stop challenge we face as parents of FA children. It’s so nice to know other families go through the same trials and tribulations. It helps us to feel normal and manage something that is always on our minds!”

“Now I am no longer ALONE out there in the (extremely dangerous) world with a food allergic child!”

“I feel so blessed to be a part of this allergy group.  When you find out your child has food allergies it is stressful and life changing.  But than you realize you are not a lone and that this group truly treats you like family. They always are there to support you whether it is just advice and just someone to vent.  It is truly a group I couldn’t live without.”

“It has been wonderful having a “go to” resource for questions and support.  I have learned valuable information here, and its nice to know there are others out there who share your same concerns/fears on a daily basis.   Everyone is friendly and non judgemental which makes it so much easier to join in the group.”

“”My” Food Allergy Support group has been so helpful to me and my family since we found out our son has multiple major food allergies.  The group has provided information, support and fun activities for my family.  Food allergies can be stressful, it is nice to have a group of people who can relate to your struggles and be there to help when needed.”

“I am so thankful for the information you posted in Columbus Parent Magazine to allow me to find you.  I am in AWE of the amazing community of moms and dads raising children with food allergies!  Thank you for all you do!  You have created an amazing group-thank you, thank you!”

“This support group is exactly THAT…wonderful support from all  different allergies, situations, views, experiences, and a chockful of  information.  Whether it’s advice on handling that Ice Cream Truck in a few weeks, needing an egg-free recipe for brownies, or just an outlet to let those feelings out that you have — you have come to the right place.

Best of all, we let you know that you are not alone and your feelings are truly understood, respected and “allowed” no matter what they may be.”
